Elevating product through color and material
This quick strike project was briefed by the Nike By You brand team to take part in a greater initiative surrounding the React Element 55. The idea was to expand on the shoe’s namesake, the atomic element Caesium 55. This radioactive element is highly unstable. The volatility of this element became the anchor point for the project. This was interpreted in two ways. First, inspiration was taken from HAZMAT suits required for working with volatile materials. These suits often incorporate vibrant, highly visible colors. These colors were applied to a leno mesh, and accented with graphic webbing details, reminiscent of hazard stripes. The second interpretation was the effect that a radioactive material would have on its environment. Here sun-bleached, desaturated colors were applied to a crinkle nylon material accented by Regrind components.
